Glory on the Mountain
Summary
Jesus takes his disciples up to a high mountain. There, the figure of Moses and Elijah appears before them. Peter offers to set up shelters for the the three of them-Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. However, the voice of God stops Peter and says to them and says, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" Later, when Jesus and the disciples descend the mountain, Jesus says they must not tell anyone what was seen "until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
Analysis
These verses reveals the divinity of Jesus, and Moses and Elijah appear alonside him. When Peter is stopped by God in his enthusiasm to build shelters for the three, it is not because of the action, but the notion that Jesus is equal alonside Moses and Elijah. God specifies that Jesus is special, that he is God's son, and that he is the one we must ultimately look and listen to.
